La Salle’s Ramon Galloway Receives Waiver From NCAA To Compete in 2011-12

RELEASE FROM La SALLE UNIVERSITY

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle junior Ramon Galloway (Philadelphia, Pa. / William Dwyer (Fla.) / South Carolina) has been granted a hardship waiver from the NCAA and is eligible to compete during the 2011-12 season, head coach Dr. John Giannini announced today. Galloway spent the past two seasons at the University of South Carolina and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

“Choosing to attend La Salle has allowed Ramon to assist nearby family members facing health issues,” Giannini said. “We are thankful that this decision allows Ramon to complete his degree and basketball eligibility in two years at which point he can be of greater assistance to those who he wants to help.”

Galloway (6-2, 175) averaged 10.7 points per game for South Carolina last season, ranking third on the team. He added 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game for the Gamecocks while connecting on 44 three-pointers.

He reached double-figures in 17 games and increased his scoring to 11.1 points per game in SEC play. His career high was a 22-point effort against Western Kentucky on November 22.

“I’m extremely happy to be able to play this season,” Galloway said. “Returning home to help my family is important to me and I’m thankful that the waiver from the NCAA allows me the opportunity to complete my degree in two years.”

As a freshman at South Carolina, Galloway averaged 7.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. He connected on 39 three-pointers as well.

Galloway will be able to compete during La Salle’s upcoming trip to Canada, which begins on Saturday, August 6 versus seven-time Canadian national champion, Carleton.
