Week of December 10 – December 16, 2012 Games

Philly College Sports Player of the Week –  James Bell, Villanova Guard – Bell sank a three-pointer with 28 seconds to play giving Villanova the lead in the rivalry game against Saint Joseph’s.  Seconds later he sealed the win with two free throws.  Against Delaware Bell socred 14 points making three three-point shots.

Honor Roll – Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson, Temple Forward – Langston Galloway, Saint Joseph’s Guard

LA SALLE 6 – 2 Overall, 1 – 0 Big Five

Results – Lost 74 – 66 at Bucknell

Summary –

Bucknell 74 LaSalle 66 – The Bison opened with a 20 – 8 advantage.  Bucknell took a 41 – 29 halftime lead and held it to beat LaSalle 74 – 665.  A 16 – 5 Bucknell run midway through the second half sealed it for the home team.  Joe William led Bucknell posting a double-double scoring 18 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.  Mike Muscala added 18.  LaSalle shot 27 of 62 (38.7%) and was 4 of 14 from the three-point line.  Bucknell made 50% of their shots.  Ramon Galloway scored 21 points, Tyreek Duren added 14, and Jerrell Wright scored 10 points.

PENN – 2 – 7 Overall, 0 – 1 Big Five

SAINT JOSEPH’S 5 – 3 Overall, 0 – 1 Big Five

Result – Lost 65 – 61 at Villanova,

Summary –

Villanova 65 Saint Joseph’s 61- Villanova guard James Bell made a three-pointer with 28 seconds to play to give Villanova the lead, seconds later Bell sealed the win with 2 free throws with 2.8 seconds as the Wildcats beat the Hawks 65 – 61.  Villanova scored the last 9 points of the game to win it.  Bell and JayVaughn Pinkston led Villanova with 12 points.  Saint Joseph’s guard Langston Galloway led all scorers with 22, and Carl Jones put in 16.

Next Game – 12/22 vs. Fairfield

TEMPLE 7 – 1 Overall, 1 – 0 Big Five

Results – Won 72 – 61 vs. Towson

Summary –

Temple 72 Towson 61 – Senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson scored a career-high 20 points and added 6 assists leading Temple to the win.  Scootie Randall posted a double-double scoring 13 points and pulling down 12 rebounds despite being held scoreless in the first half.  Khalif Wyatt added 11 points and Wil Cummings made 5 of the 12 steals for the Owls.  The Cherry and White took control of the game with a 12 – 5 run taking a 53 – 39 lead with 10:35 to play.

Next Game – Chevrolet Gotham Classic – 12/17 vs. Alcorn State, 12/19 vs. Canisius, 12/22 vs. Syracuse at Madison Square Garden

VILLANOVA 7 – 4 Overall, 2 – 2 Big Five

Results – Won 65 – 61 vs. Saint Joseph’s, Won 75 – 65 vs. Delaware at The Pavilion

Villanova 65 Saint Joseph’s 61- Villanova guard James Bell made a three-pointer with 28 seconds to play to give Villanova the lead, seconds later Bell sealed the win with 2 free throws with 2.8 seconds as the Wildcats beat the Hawks 65 – 61.  Villanova scored the last 9 points of the game to win it.  Bell and JayVaughn Pinkston led Villanova with 12 points.  Saint Joseph’s guard Langston Galloway led all scorers with 22, and Carl Jones put in 16.

Villanova 75 Delaware 65 – Good inside play propelled Villanova to their third straight win.  The Wildcats for a team-high 19 points from JayVaughn Pinkston and Daniel Ochefu added 11 points.  Villanova had a 43 – 27 edge in rebounding.  The Wildcats had 20 offensive rebounds which gave them a 29 – 7 edge in Second Chance Points.  Pinkston, Ochefu, and Achraf Yacoubu had 4 offensive rebounds each.  Villanova has won three straight games.

James Bell was named the Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week.

DREXEL 3 – 7 Overall

Results – Lost 69 – 58 at Fairfield

Summary –

Fairfield 69 Drexel 58 – A 16 – 1 run midway through the second half by Fairfield put Drexel on to a slope they could not overcome as they lose to Fairfield 69 – 58.  The Dragons got to within five with just under two minutes to play on a Tavon Allen layup, but would get no closer.  Damion Lee led Drexel with 15 points despite shooting 4 of 15 from the floor.  Frantz Massenat added 11 points.
