Week of December 10 – December 16, 2012 Games

Philly College Sports.com Player of the Week – Laura Sweeney, Villanova Forward

Laura Sweeney scored 11 points, 9 in the beginning of the game when points were hard to come by, leading the Wildcats to a win over Princeton.  Sweeney added 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocked shots, and 2 steals for Villanova.

Honor Roll – Victoria Macaulay, Temple Forward – Caroline Coyer, Villanova Guard

LA SALLE 1 – 9 Overall, 0 – 2 Big Five

Results – Lost 74 – 50 vs. Florida at the Gola Arena

Summary –

Florida 74 LaSalle 50 – The Explorers trailed by 19 at halftime.  LaSalle started the second half with a 17 – 4 run to close to within 6 points at 39 – 33.  LaSalle forced 7 of the Florida 17 turnovers in that stretch.  However, that was as close as the Explorers would get.  Shanel Harrison led LaSalle with 15 points.  Brittany Wilson scored 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.

Next Game – 12/19 at Central Connecticut State

PENN – 4 – 3 Overall, 1 – 0 Big Five

Summary –

Next Game – 12/21 at Drexel in the Battle of 33rd Street

SAINT JOSEPH’S 5 – 3 Overall, 0 – 1 Big Five

Results – Did not play this week

Summary –

Next Game – 12/20 vs. Central Michigan in the Gator Classic

TEMPLE 5 – 4 Overall

Results – Lost 71 – 49 at Auburn

Summary –

Auburn 71 Temple 49 – Turnovers were again costly for the Owls as they committed 28 in the game.  That resulted in a 36 – 12 edge in Points Off Turnovers for Auburn.  Temple has averaged 22.7 turnovers per game.  Victoria Macaulay led Temple with 18 points and 6 rebounds.  Tyonna Williams added 12 points.  The Owls have lost two games in a row.

Next Game – 12/21 at Villanova

VILLANOVA 8 – 1 Overall, 2 – 0 Big Five

Results – Won 61 – 54 vs. Princeton at The Pavilion

Summary –

Villanova 61 Princeton 54 – Points were hard to come by as Villanova shot 21 – 54 (38.9%), and Princeton was 21 – 57 (31.3%).  The Wildcats opened the second half with a 13 – 5 run to take a 16 point lead, and the cushion they would need.  Caroline Coyer led Villanova with 12 points and Laura Sweeney added 11.  Niveen Rasheed scored 15 points while getting 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
