Week of September 11 – 18, 2013 Games

Three city Games Highlight The Week

DREXEL 3 – 3 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost 1 – 0 (2 OT) at Penn

Summary –

Penn 1 Drexel 0 – It took 108 minutes of play before Penn’s Kelly Scalora put the ball in the upper part of the net giving the Red and Blue the win.  Drexel goalkeeper Eve Badana made 6 saves while Penn net minder Kalijah Terilli picked up 3 saves.

Next Game – at Colorado College 9/20

LA SALLE 6 – 1 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 1 – 0 at Villanova, Won 4 – 0 vs. Loyola (MD) at McCarthy Stadium

LaSalle 1 Villanova 0 – The only goal of the game was scored in the 16th minute when Kelsey Haycook beat Villanova goalkeeper Jami Kranich to the far post.  LaSalle was outshot 23 – 5, but the Wildcats could get nothing past Explorer goalie Jessica Wiggins, who made 5 saves in getting her second clean slate of the season.

LaSalle 4 Loyola (MD) 0 – The Explorers got three second half goals in a 15 minute span to pull away from the Greyhounds.  Haycook got the first LaSalle goal scoring just under the 10 minute mark.  LaSalle put in three goals in the second half.  The goals were scored by Haycook, Ashley Chilcoat, and Renee Washington.   Goalkeeper Katie Getzinger posted her second shutout of the campaign.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 4 –3 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Result – Won 1 – 0 vs. Loyola, Lost 1 – 0 vs. Penn, Lost 1 – 0 vs. Princeton – all games at Sweeney Field

Summary –

Saint Joseph’s 1 Loyola (MD) 0 – Midfielder Mo Hawkins scored in the 22nd minute to give the Hawks all the offense they needed in beating Loyola.  SJU Goalkeeper Lauren Jancuska recorded her conference-leading 4th shutout of the season making 5 saves along the way.

Princeton 1 Saint Joseph’s 0 – A high-arching shot by Princeton’s Tyler Iussi clipped the top of the crossbar and deflected into the net for the only goal of the game.  Jancuska made a save off a penalty kick.  The Hawks were outshot 20 – 11, but held a 9 – 3 edge in corner kicks.

Next Game – vs. Hofstra 9/21 at Sweeney Field

TEMPLE 5 – 2 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 2- 0 vs. Binghamton at the Amber Sports Complex, Tied 0 – 0 at Lafayette

Summary –

Temple 2 Binghamton 0 – The Owls ended a three-game losing streak and earned their first home victory beating Binghamton.  The Temple goals were scored by Erin Lafferty and Elaine Byerley.  The Lafferty goal came off a penalty kick in the 64th minute.  Byerley added the insurance goal 15 minutes later.  Goalkeeper Shauni Kerkhoff picked up her fifth win.  Each win has been a shutout for her.  The Owls net minder saved two.  Temple outshot Binghamton 14 – 8.

Temple 0 Lafayette 0 – Both teams had 10 shots. Five Temple shots were on goal, but did not cross the goal line.  Kerkhoff recorded her 6th shutout.

Next Game – vs. Delaware 9/22 at the Ambler Sports Complex

VILLANOVA 3 – 3 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 Big East

Results – Lost 1 – 0 vs. LaSalle, Won 2 – 1 vs. St. Francis at the West Campus Soccer Complex

Summary –

LaSalle 1 Villanova 0 – The only goal of the game was scored in the 16th minute when Kelsey Haycook beat Villanova goalkeeper Jami Kranich to the far post.  LaSalle was outshot 23 – 5, but the Wildcats could get nothing past Explorer goalie Jessica Wiggins, who made 5 saves in getting her second clean slate of the season.

Villanova 2 St. Francis 1 – A pair of first half goals were enough for Villanova to beat St. Francis.  The Wildcats first goal came in the 12th minute when Christina Camassa sent the ball high into the center of the net.  Victoria Gersh got the assist.  Camassa assisted Gersh 5 minutes later to put the Blue and White ahead by two goals.  Villanova owned a 16 – 10 shot advantage, 10 – 4 in the first half.  Gersh earned a Big East Weekly Honor Roll award for her performance in the contest.
