La Salle never got the lead. The Explorers made several charges, but could not over take the Bonnies and lose in the Atlantic 10 first round at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY.
The best chance La Salle had to move in front came with 12:26 to play when a layup by guard Tyreek Duren cut the deficit to one-point at 53 – 52. St. Bonaventure answered by scoring the next five points to sustain their advantage.
The Explorers got to within three-points twice in the final four minutes, but did not get a stop. The Bonnies responded each time to stop the comeback.
Forward Jerrell Wright led La Salle with a career-high 26 points making 11 of 13 field goal attempts. He also took down 9 rebounds. Duren added 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half. Center Steve Zack recorded his 14th double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Sam Mills hit double figures with 10 points.
For St. Bonaventure Youssou Ndoye turned in a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Marquise Simmons scored 15 points and Charlton Cloof contributed 14 points. The Bonnies will meet top-seeded Saint Louis in the quarterfinal round.
La Salle concludes its season with a 15 – 16 record.
