Villanova Uses Defense To Advance In NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament

The Villanova Wildcats relied on their defense to advance to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.  The Wildcats will face old Big East rival the Connecticut Huskies in the next game in the Eastern Regional.

Villanova held Milwaukee to 28.6% shooting from the floor (18 of 63) and went 6 for 24 from beyond the arc.  Panther leading scorer Jordan Aaron was limited to 6 points on 1 for 15 shooting from the floor.   Austin Arians led Milwaukee in scoring with 17 points.

The Wildcats got their offense going in the second half scoring 46 points compared to 27 in the first.

Darrun Hilliard led Villanova with 16 points.  JayVaughn Pinkston added 13 points and 8 rebounds.  James Bell contributed 12 points and 7 rebounds.  From three-point land the Wildcats were 4 of 23 (17.4%).   Freshmen Jason Hart and Kris Jenkins scored 11 points each.  Jenkins made three of the four Villanova three-pointers.

The Wildcats have a 29 – 4 record, the second highest win total in program history.  Only the 2008-09 team had more wins with 30.  This team goes for that number against UConn on Saturday night.
