Villanova Records The Only City Win, Drexel and Temple Get Ties

 Games The Week of October 7 – 13, 2014 Games

DREXEL DRAGONS 4 – 6 – 3 Overall, 0 – 2 – 1 CAA

Results – Lost 1 – 0 (OT) at Northeastern, Tied 2 – 2 (2 OT) vs. College of Charleston at Vidas Field

Summary –

Northeastern 1 Drexel 0 (OT) – The Dragons got six shots, there on net, but fell on a goal by the Huskies’ Nick Goo in the 97th minute.  Drexel, the two-time defending regular season CAA regular season champions, fell to 0 – 2 in conference this season.

Drexel 2 College of Charleston 2 – The Dragons were close to getting their first CAA win, but a goal by Adam Noel with 19 seconds left in regulation tied it for the Cougars.  The score came off a corner kick.  In a scrum in front of the goal, Noel got a toe on the ball and put it in the right corner.  Noel scored both of the College of Charleston goals.  Robert Liberatore and John Grosh scored for Drexel.

Next Game – 10/15 vs. James Madison University

LA SALLE EXPLORERS 4 – 6 – 1 Overall, 0 – 1 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 3 – 1 vs. Fordham at McCarthy Stadium

Summary –

Fordham 3 La Salle 1 – The Explorers took a lead just 59 seconds into the game on a goal by Joe Farrell from 10 yards out.  Greg Henry was credited with the assist.  Fordham answered four minutes later, then took control of the game with two second half goals.

Next Game – 10/17 at George Washington

PENN QUAKERS – 5 – 5 – 0 Overall, 1 – 1 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsLost 2 – 1 vs. Columbia at Rhodes Field

Summary –

Columbia 2 Penn 1 – The Red and Blue held a 1 – 0 halftime lead as Duke Lacroix scored his 6th goal of the season right at the 20 minute mark.  Lacroix had two other good opportunities, but did not capitalize.  The Lions struck back in the 61st minute on a header by Rhys Williams.  Columbia took the lead just under eight and a half minutes later on a Frederick Elliott goal.

Defender Sam Wancowicz was named the Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week.

Next Game – 10/14 at Rutgers

SAINT JOSEPH’S HAWKS 6 – 3 – 3 Overall, 1 – 1 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 2 – 0 at Fordham

Summary –

Fordham 2 Saint Joseph’s 0 – A goal four minutes into the second half by Ole Sandnes gave the Rams the lead.  Andres Penfold added the insurance goal in the 68th minute.  The Hawks had an 18 – 14 advantage in shots, and a 5 – 4 edge in corner kicks.

Next Game – 10/19 at George Washington

TEMPLE OWLS 2 – 8 – 2 Overall, 1 – 2 – 1 AAC

Results – Tied 1- 1 (2 OT) vs. UCF, Lost 2 – 1 vs. SMU (OT) both at the Ambler Soccer Complex

Summary –

Temple 1 UCF 1 (2 OT) – Despite outshooting Central Florida by a 16 – 9 margin Temple needed a goal by Chris Wilson in the 88th minute to send the game into overtime.  It was Wilson’s third goal of the season and was assisted by Jared Martinelli.  ON the overtime periods the Owls did not allow a shot and five of their own.  None got past the goal keeper.

SMU 2 Temple 1 (OT) – A goal by the Mustangs Bryce Clarke from 25 yards out ended the contest.  Olli Tynkkynen scored the Temple goal in the 55th minute.  SMU outshot Temple 21 – 4.  Owls’ goal keeper Dan Scheck made a career-high 12 saves for the Cherry and White.

Next Game – 10/4 at Yale

VILLANOVA WILDCATS 6 – 5 – 1 Overall, 1 – 2 – 0 Big East

Results – Won 1 – 0 at Stony Brook, Lost 2 – 1 at Providence

Summary –

Hayden Harr - Villanova University. Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week
Hayden Harr – Villanova University. Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week

Villanova 1 Stony Brook 0 – A goal by Hayden Harr, his fourth in the last three games, gave the Wildcats a 1 – 0 road win.  Harr’s score came in the 56th minute.  John Jlopeh got the assist.  Goal Keeper Will Steiner made 2 saves in earning a shutout.  Villanova had a 13 – 4 advantage in shots.

Harr was named the Soccer Six Player of the Week.

Providence 2 Villanova 1 – Fabio Machado’s goal at 87:59 lifted Providence to the win.  The Wildcats were down 1 – 0 when Colton Bryant tied the game in the 40th minute.  It was Bryant’s first goal of the season.  That combined with his stellar work on defense earned Bryant the Philadelphia Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week.

Next Game – 10/15 vs. Seton Hall at the Higgins Soccer Complex
