Here’s a challenging assignment  for you as we approach the midway point of the season:  Pick an all-Big 5 team, using only 5 players. The big problem isn’t choosing the team, it’s who do you have to leave off?  DeAndre’ Bembry and Will Cummings are probably a good start, but then you have Villanova with JayVaughn Pinkston, Darrun Hilliard and  Daniel Ochefu, plus the very valuable Ryan Arcidiacono.  Jaylen Bond is coming on strong, Jordan Price is the Big 5’s leading scorer, and Jerrell Wright is a very solid big man. So, that’s 9 really good players, which should certainly be enough to get some good arguments going.

Things I wonder about: Why do 98% of college coaches wear dark suits at games?… How come, when a team misses a point -blank layup, the other team always seems to immediately score down at the other end?… How is it that a referee who works a game in the mid-west one day, can be assigned to a game in Philadelphia the following afternoon, and still be in top form?…And what does coach Brett Brown REALLY think about the Philadelphia Analytics master plan?

This and That:: Great to see a class act like Langston Galloway get a shot with the Knicks.  The former St. Joe’s star was averaging 16  points a game with the Westchester D-league team…. Atlantic City’s Lou Roe, who won the John Wooden Award while playing for UMass in 1995, is the Director of Basketball Operations at his alma mater….If resurgent Temple can pull off a victory against Tulsa on Saturday, they’ll have a 7 game winning streak when Larry Brown’s team comes to town on the 14th….Also this Saturday, Penn opens Ivy League  play at Princeton; St.Joe’s has a tough one at VCU; La Salle hosts George Washington; Villanova  is home to improved DePaul, and under-manned Drexel is at UNC Wilmington.
