Drexel Rally Falls Short In CAA Quarterfinal

#7 Delaware 55 #2 Drexel 48 – The Dragons trailed the Blue Hens by as many as 10 points in the second half.  Drexel got to within 2 points in the final minute, but could not take the lead losing to arch-rival Delaware in the CAA Quarterfinal round.  It is the first time since 2011.

The Blue Hens got out to an early 20 – 9 lead forcing the Dragons to play from behind.  Delaware held a 50 – 41 lead with just under five minutes on the clock when Drexel made their final charge.  The Dragons scored 7 straight to cut the deficit to 50 – 48 at the 2:08 mark on a layup by Sara Curran, who scored a team-high 12 points.  Drexel got the defensive stops, but came up empty on two opportunities to tie or take the lead.  The Hens made 5 of 6 free throws in the last half-minute to seal the win.

Rachel Pearson and Jackie Schluth each scored 8 points for the Dragons.  Drexel  forced 20 Delaware turnovers in the contest.

For Delaware Courtni Green led all scorers with 16 points.  The Blue Hens will face third-seeded Hofstra in the semifinal round.

The Dragons finish the season with a 20 – 10 record and will await their WNIT matchup.  The field will be announced on Monday.
