Saint Joseph’s Wins Two Straight, Emily Gingrich and Michaela Finneyfrock Earn League Awards, Drexel Wins On Senior Day Behind Freshman Vanessa Kara, Temple Splits On The Road Trip

Games The Week of October 14 – 20, 2015

DREXEL 8 – 8 – 0 Overall, 2 – 5 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost 2 – 0 vs. William & Mary, Won 2 – 1 (2 OT) vs. Elon, both at Vidas Field

Summary – It was a split in the final weekend of the home schedule for the Dragons.  In the Senior Day overtime win against Elon freshman Vanessa Kara scored both goals.  The game winner came with 6:20 to play in the second overtime.  For the game Drexel had a 30 – 7 advantage.  Kara has 10 goals this season which ties the program record for goals scored in a single season.  She was named the CAA Rookie of the Week.

Next Game – 10/23 at Northeastern

LA SALLE 6 – 7 – 2 Overall, 3 – 3 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 2 – 1 vs. Dayton, Lost 4 – 1  (OT) vs. VCU at McCarthy Stadium

Summary – The Explorers earned a win, then lost their chance at a three-game winning streak.  Chrissy Vollrath and Marykate Bateman scored in the win vs. Dayton.  It was Bateman’s fourth goal of the season, and was the game-winner.  Maci Bower scored her first collegiate goal in the loss to VCU in a game where La Salle had a 17 – 9 edge in shots.

Next Game – 10/22 vs. Richmond at McCarthy Stadium

PENN – 5 – 3 – 5 Overall, 0 – 1 – 3 Ivy League

ResultsTied 1 – 1 (2 OT) vs. Dartmouth at Rhodes Field

Summary – The game was twice delayed when the lights went out at Rhodes Field, and took more than three hours to play.  Penn got the early lead on a goal by Olivia Blaber.  Dartmouth got the tying goal with a mere 19 seconds left in regulation.  In overtime it appeared that Caroline Dwyer would win it for the Red and Blue, but her shot was cleared off the goal line.

Next Game – 10/24 vs. Yale at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S 9 –6 – 0 Overall, 3 – 3 – 0 Atlantic 10

Result – Won 2 – 1 at Richmond, Won 1 – 0 vs. Duquesne at Sweeney Field

Summary – The Hawks got a sweep in the two home games during the week.  Emily Gingrich had two goals  in the games.  Her goal at Richmond tied the game, and a penalty shot was the game-winner against Duquesne.  Freshman Michaela Finneyfrock scored the game winner in the 87th minute at Richmond.  Gingrich was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week while Finneyfrock earned the league Rookie of the Week award.

Next Game – 10/22 at St. Louis

TEMPLE 10 – 6 – 1 Overall, 2 – 4 – 1 AAC

Results – Lost 2 – 1 at Tulsa, Won 2 – 1 (OT) at Memphis

Summary – During the road trip the Owls got a disappointing loss, but turned it around with an overtime win.  Temple fell to Tulsa despite leading for 85 minutes.  The Hurricanes scored twice in the last five minute to steal the victory.  In the next outing the Owls fell behind, but tied the game.  Gina DiTaranto scored in the 97th minute for the win.  It was the second game-winner of the season for DiTaranto.  Elana Byerley tied the game in the first half.  Elana Falcone found the back of the net for Temple in the game at Tulsa.

Next Game – 10/22 vs. SMU

VILLANOVA  1 – 14 – 0 Overall, 0 – 6 – 0 Big East

Results – Lost 2 – 0 at Xavier at the Higgins Soccer Complex

Summary – The Wildcats got more of the shots, but Musketeers got the goals to get the victory.  Villanova outshot Xavier 14 – 7 and held a 9 – 4 edge in shots on goal, but none crossed the line.  Haylie Wilson led the way for the Wildcats with a game-high 5 shots.

Next Game – 10/22 at Marquette
