PhillyCollegeSports.com Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

Feyonda Fitzgerald – Temple – Feyonda Fitzgerald repeats as the PhillyCollegeSports.com Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.  Fitzgerald averaged 23 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists in two games this week.  She recorded her first double-double with 19 points and 10 assists against city rival La Salle, then followed with a 27 point effort at Rutgers.

Games The Week of November 16 – 23, 2015

LA SALLE 0 – 3 Overall, 0 – 0 Atlantic 10, 0 – 1 Big Five

Results –   Lost 77 – 58 vs. Temple, Lost 76-45 vs. Robert Morris both games at the Tom Gola Arena

Summary –  The Explorers wrapped up their home stand losing twice giving up 77 and 76 points.  Amy Griffin contributed a total of 27 points and 11 rebounds for La Salle.  The Explorers embark on a 6-game road trip.

Next Game – 11/25/2015 at Wake Forest

PENN 3 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 Ivy League

Results – Won 54 – 37 vs. Lafayette at the Palestra, Won 67 – 60 at New Hampshire

Summary –  The University of Pennsylvania continues its winning ways.  After suffering a narrow defeat against Duke in the season opener, Penn has won three in a row  This week the Red and Blue collected wins over Lafayette and New Hampshire.  Anna Ross poured in 33 points during the week including a career-high 25 points at New Hampshire.  Michelle Nwokedi recorded another double-double against Lafayette (12 points and 10 rebounds) totaling 24 points and 19 boards over two games.  Sydney Stipanovich had a total of 33 points posting a season-high 19 points at Lafayette.

Next Game – 11/24/2015 vs. Colorado State at The Palestra

SAINT JOSEPH’S 0 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 66 – 54 vs. Seton Hall at the Hagan Arena

Summary – The Hawks are looking for their first win of the season dropping a 12 point decision at unbeaten Seton Hall.  Sarah Fairbanks scored a team-high 13 points, pulled down 8 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots.  Ciara Andrews got 11 points and stole the ball three times.

Next Game – 11/24/2015 at Villanova

TEMPLE 2 – 1   Overall, 0 – 0 AAC, 1 – 0 Big Five

Results – Won 77 – 48 at La Salle, Lost 61 -51 at Rutgers

Summary – The Owls split their games this week.  Feyonda Fitzgerald is off to a great start, and registered her first double-double with 19 points and 10 assists against city rival La Salle.  She followed that with a 27 point, 9 rebound, and 3 assist effort at Rutgers.  Alliya Butts totaled 39 points over the week.  Temple continues its road trip at Quinnipiac.

VILLANOVA 1 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 Big East

Results – Idle

Summary – The Wildcats continue play on Tuesday with a Big Five game hosting the Hawks of Saint Joseph’s.

Next Game – 11/24 vs. Saint Joseph’s at the Pavilion

DREXEL 2 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Won 58 – 46 at the DAC in Preseason WNIT

Summary – The Dragons took two out of three wrapping up the tournament with a win over the Bonnies.  Sarah Curran led the way scoring 23 points, two shy of her career-high.  Curran was 7 for 17 from the floor and a perfect 9 of from the line.  The Drexel defense held St. Bonaventure to 30.8% shooting and forced 17 turnovers.

Next Game – 11/28/2015 vs. Villanova at the Lehigh Tournament
