No Wins Over The Week For Soccer Six Schools, Villanova Scores A Draw

Week of October 11 – 17, 2016

DREXEL 1 – 10 – 2 Overall, 0 – 5 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost 4 – 0 at Hofstra, Lost 2 – 0 vs. Elon both at Vidas Field

Summary –  It was a tough stretch for the Dragons.  On the good side they did break a six-game scoreless streak when Colin McGlynn scored in the 73rd minute against Hofstra.  It was the first goal for the Dragons since the September 13th game against Temple and lasted 612:32.  Drexel was outshot 34 – 9 over the week, 13 – 3 on goal.  The final CAA home game is scheduled for Saturday, October 22 against James Madison.

Next Game – 10/22 vs. James Madison at Vidas Field

LA SALLE 6 – 7 – 0 Overall, 1 – 3 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 2 – 0 at VCU, Lost 1 – 0 vs. Fordham at McCarthy Stadium

Summary  –  The Explorers dropped a pair of conference games and were shutout in both contests.  VCU outshot La Salle 18 – 4.  Against the Rams who scored early, LSU goalie Mike Kirk had seven saves.

Next Game – 10/19 vs. Dayton at McCarthy Stadium

PENN –3 – 3 – 5 Overall, 1 – 2 – 0 Ivy League

Results – Lost 4 – 1 at Dartmouth

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania found themselves behind 1 – 0 in the sixth minute.  The Big Green put two goals on the board within 15 minutes in the second half to take control of the game.  Penn got a goal back in the 72nd minute from Matt Poplawski, who has 7 points on the year.  Goalie Etan Mabourakh made four saves.

Next Game – 10/19 at Villanova

SAINT JOSEPH’S  6 – 7 – 1 Overall, 3 – 2 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 2 – 1 vs. Davidson at Sweeney Field,  Lost 3 – 0 at George Washington

Summary – The Hawks lost their first Atlantic 10 games of the season.  Isaac Agyapong scored his first ever goal against Davidson, and was named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Rookie of the Week.  The Hawks return to conference action on Wednesday.  Their three-game win streak came to an end.

Next Game – 10/19 at VCU

TEMPLE 8 – 5 – 1 Overall, 1 – 2 – 1 AAC

Results – Lost 1 – 0 (OT) at Columbia, Lost 4 – 0 at Cincinnati

Summary – The Owls four-game win streak came to an end in the overtime loss to Columbia despite having a 11 – 9 advantage on shots.  Kyan Rocks scored at 94:01 to end the game.  In the conference game at Cincinnati, Temple put on the pressure outshooting their conference foe 16 – 10.  But the Bearcats got the goals, three within twelve minutes of the second half to earn the win.  Jorge Gomez-Sanchez had 7 shots, 3 on goal.

Next Game – 10/18 vs. Delaware at The Temple Sports Complex

VILLANOVA 6 – 5 – 2 Overall, 2 – 2 – 1 Big East

Results – Tied 2 – 2 (2 OT) at Xavier

Summary –  The Wildcats picked up the only non-blemish of the week for the Soccer Six.  The Cats earned a point in Big East play.  Villanova got the lead off a Lucas Hodges header at 9:07.  The next goals of the game went to Xavier.  Andreas Bartosinski put the Wildcats back in the lead, his first of the season, at 58:05.  Xavier would get the equalizer thirteen minutes later.  Bartosonski was named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week.  The Cats owned a 30 – 15 edge in shots.
