Adrianna Hahn, Villanova – The sophomore guard from Delaware contributed back to back 20-point performances to lead Villanova in evening their Big East record to 2 – 2.  In the Georgetown win Hahn scored a game-high 23 points making 9 of 18 from the floor and 5 of 11 from the three-point line.  At Providence Hahn scored 25 as she converted 9 of 13 field goal attempts, 3 of 6 from beyond the arc.  The Ursuline Academy grad was a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line.  She has five twenty-point performances this season.

Games The Week of January 3 – 8, 2017

LA SALLE 8 – 6 Overall,  1 – 2 Atlantic 10, 1 – 2 Big Five

Results –   Lost 76 – 68 vs. Duquesne at the Gola Arena

Summary – Amy Griffin scored 12 of her 16 points in the first half.  Her jumper with 6:56 to go in the 2nd quarter gave Griffin her 1,000th career point.  La Salle dropped their Atlantic 10 home opener.  LSU got to within 71 – 68 late, but would get no closer.  Adreana Miller led the Explorers with 17 points.

Next Game – 1/9/2017 – vs. Rhode Island

PENN 7 –  4 Overall,  1 – 0 Ivy League,  0 – 2 Big Five

Results –  Won 62 – 57 at Princeton

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania won its Ivy League opener getting a big win over arch-rival Princeton the third straight victory.  It was the expected battle that came down to the 4th quarter.  Guard Beth Brzozowski came up big hitting all of her 9 points in the last 6:26 to boost Penn to the victory.  Michelle Nwokedi led the Quakers with 13 points and an equal number if rebounds.  It was her 6th double-double of the season.  Kasey Chambers set a career-high dishing out 8 assists.  The Tigers led 44 – 41 after three quarters, but Penn used a 19 – 6 run in the last quarter as the road to victory.

Next Game – 1/13/2017 vs. Yale at The Palestra

SAINT JOSEPH’S 4 – 11 Overall, 1 – 2 Atlantic 10, 1 – 2 Big Five

Results – Lost 53 – 44  at George Washington, Won 81 – 50 vs. Massachusetts at the Hagan Arena

Summary – The fourth quarter woes continued for the Hawks at George Washington.  There was no chance it would haunt Saint Joe’s in the win against UMass taking control from the start.  Kristalyn Baisden had a big stretch of games scoring 30 points.  Adashia Franklyn turned in an 18 point 11 rebound effort against Massachusetts.

Next Game – 1/11/2017 vs. VCU at the Hagan Arena

TEMPLE 11 – 3,  Overall, 2 – 0 AAC, 3 – 0 Big Five

Results –  Won 79 – 38 at Kennesaw State, Won 86 – 71vs. Tulane at McGonigle Hall

Summary – The Owls have won 7 in a row.  Temple forced 27 turnovers in the game at Kennesaw State and used a 34 – 4 edge in points off turnovers to cruise to the victory.  Against Tulane guard Tanaya Atkinson scored 21 points to give her 1,000 in her career.  In Georgia Atkinson had 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Over the two games Feyonda Fitzgerald recorded her fourth straight double-double.  She had 17 points and 10 assists against Kennesaw State, then put up 20 and 13 in the Tulane game.  Ruth Sherrill held a pair of 10’s over Tulane.

Next Game – 1/11/2017 vs. East Carolina University at McGonigle Hall

VILLANOVA  6 – 8 Overall, 2 – 2 Big East, 2 – 1 Big Five

Results – Won 71 – 50 vs. Georgetown at the Pavilion, Won 64 – 59 at Providence

Adrianna Hahn #31

Summary –  The Wildcats evened their Big East record with a pair of conference wins.  Sophomore guard Adrianna Hahn led the way with 48 points, 25 against Georgetown and 23 in Providence, giving her two-consecutive 10-point games.  Hahn was 18 of 31 from the floor and 8 of 17 from beyond the arc in total.  Alex Louin added 17 points versus the Friars.

Next Game – 1/10/2017 at Creighton

DREXEL 11 – 3 Overall, 2 – 1 CAA

Results – Lost 48 – 45 vs. Elon at the DAC, Won 63 – 33 at Northeastern

Summary –  The Dragons lost a conference game at home to Elon.  However, Drexel bounced back with a big win over Northeastern in Boston.  The loss ended a 7-game winning streak,  Sarah Curran led Drexel with 15 points in the Elon game.  She followed that with an 11-point effort in her 100th career start.  Jessica Pellechio scored 20 points against the Huskies which gave her 1,000 career points.  Meghan Creighton added 16 points in snowy New England.
