Temple Loses Heartbreaker To Clemson In CRC Bowl Quarterfinal

CHESTER, PA. 6/4/2017 – The Temple Owls came out with a lot more fire in the Bowl Quarterfinal of the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship.  The Owls had victory within their grasp, but a try and conversion with no time on the clock gave the Clemson Tigers a 14 – 12 victory ending the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship tournament for the Cherry and White

Despite not getting a win the overall experience for the Owls was positive.

“It was fantastic,” said Temple Coach John Sciotto.  “This is a nationally recognized tournament and that we have an opportunity to compete says a lot.  We are still trying to build.  This was great exposure.”

The Owls took a 5 – 0 lead early on a try by Serenity Bishop.  Clemson answered with a try and conversion to move in front 7 – 5.  This scenario would play itself out later in the match.

Temple grabbed the lead back on a Mike Wellstein try.  The Cherry and White held that 12 – 7 lead until nearly the end. Clemson got a last chance and made the most of it getting a try and conversion that ended the game.  The ending was disappointing for the North Philly squad.

“It’s always tough, but it is what it is,” Sciotto said.

Better days should loom ahead for Temple.

The Bowl Competition is for the eight teams who finished with the fewest points in pool play.
