La Salle In First Place In The Atlantic 10 Winning Four Straight Conference Games

Games The Week Of September 27 – October 2, 2017

DREXEL 6 – 4 – 1 Overall, 1 – 0 – 1 CAA

Results – Lost 2 – 0 at Hofstra, Won 1 – 0 vs. Towson at Vidas Field

Summary – The Dragons split their conference games weekend.  In the win against Towson Vanessa Kane scored on a penalty kick with just under two minutes to play.  Goal Keeper Christiana Ogunsami recorded 9 saves of the week.  For Drexel it was a matter of getting opportunities.  They were outshot 17 – 12 at Hofstra, but had a 15 – 7 edge in the Towson game.

Next Game – 10/5 at Delaware

LA SALLE 9 – 3 – 1 Overall, 4 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 4 – 0 vs. Dayton at McCarthy Stadium, Won 2 – 0 at Rhode Island

Summary – The Explorers have a four-game winning streak in the Atlantic 10 outscoring their opponents 12 – 2 in the conference.  Goal Keeper Larisa Zambelli turned in a pair of shutouts, her seventh of the season.  Four different La Salle players had goals.  The Explorers sit atop of the A10 standings.

Next Game – 10/5 vs. Davidson at McCarthy Stadium

PENN – 3 – 5 – 3 Overall, 1 – 0 – 1 Ivy League

ResultsTied 0 – 0 (2 OT) vs. Cornell, Won 2 – 0 vs. Delaware State both at Rhodes Field

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania gained a draw in the Ivy League draw.  Penn had a 28 – 10 advantage in shots in the Cornell game, but could not solve Big Red goalie Meghan Kennedy. Quaker goalie Kitty Qu recorded her fourth clean slate of the season.  The Red and Blue kept the offense going in the Delaware State game netting two, their first multi-goal game of the season.  Paige Howard and Maddie Dawkins scored for Penn  The first goal of this year’s campaign for Dawkins.

Next Game – 10/6 at Columbia

SAINT JOSEPH’S 6 – 4 – 2 Overall, 1 – 2 – 0 Atlantic 10

Result – Tied 2 – 2 (2 OT) vs. George Mason at Sweeney Field, Lost 3 – 0 at Saint Louis

Summary –  The Hawks finished the week with a tie and a loss.  The George Mason game saw the Hawks take a lead only to see the Patriots tie it back up, the last goal at 81:14.  Sofia Filippo and Lauren Dimes had the SJU goals.  Saint Joe’s fell on three second half goals against SLU.

Next Game – 10/5 at VCU

TEMPLE 5 – 5 – 1 Overall, 1 – 1 – 0 American

Results – Won 1 – 0 vs. ECU, Lost 3 – 0 vs. Cincinnati both at the Temple Sports Complex

Summary – The Owls won their conference opener on a goal by Elana Falcone.  The four-game home winning streak came to an end in the loss to the Bearcats.  Temple Goal Keeper Morgan Basileo recorded her fourth shutout of the season against ECU and matched her season-high in saves in the Cincinnati game.

Next Game – 10/5 at Memphis

VILLANOVA 5 – 7 – 0 Overall, 1 – 2 – 0 Big East

Results – Won 4 – 1 at Marquette, Lost 1 – 0 vs. Xavier at the Higgins Soccer Complex

Summary – The Wildcats earned their first ever win against the Golden Eagles lead by Emily Kuefler with two scores.  Returning home Villanova fell in a close encounter against Xavier on a goal in the 64th minute.  Nova continues Big East play at Seton Hall.

Next Game – 10/5 at Seton Hall
