PHILLY COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOCCER WEEK IN REVIEW

                                                     La Salle, Penn, and Villanova Sweep the Week

Week of September 11 – 17, 2018

DREXEL 3 – 2 – 4 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost 2 – 1 (OT) at Providence, Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) at Princeton

Summary – The Dragons played a pair of overtime battles and came out with a loss and a tie.  Shaelyn McCarty had a goal in the Providence game, and had 3 shots in overtime at Princeton.  None would cross the goal line.  Goal Keeper Lizzy Baeza had 3 saves in recording her 3rd shutout of the year.  The Dragons have not won since the September 2nd game vs. Maryland.  Drexel has completed the non-conference part of their schedule.

Next Game – 9/20 vs. James Madison at the Vidas Sports Complex

LA SALLE 5 – 1 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 2 – 1 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson at McCarthy Stadium

Summary – Two second half goal stood up for the Explorers.  Molly O’Brien had a goal and an assist.  Her three-point game is a career-high.  Madison Bower scored her fifth goal of the season.  La Salle is unbeaten in the month of September.  A 10 play begins on the road for LSU.

Next Game – 9/20 at Davidson

PENN – 6 – 1 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsWon 2 – 0 vs. UMBC at Rhodes Field, Won 1 – 0 at Towson

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania swept both games this week in shutout fashion.  Goal Keeper Kitty Qu recorded her 4th clean slate of the season.  Kelsey Andrews scored twice against UMBC, her first multi-goal game of the year.  Emily Sands got the game-winner at Towson.  She has a point in three consecutive games.  Ivy League play starts for Penn when they host the Harvard Crimson.

Next Game – 9/22 vs. Harvard at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S  5 – 2 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 1 – 0 vs. Villanova, Won 1 – 0 vs. Cornell both at Sweeney Field

Summary – In the win over Cornell goal keeper Grace Bendon set a Saint Joe’s program record for most career wins with 24.  Aleksa Peev got the game-winner.  The Hawks dropped a one-nil decision on a drizzly evening against city rival Villanova.  Saint Joseph’s found themselves on both sides of a 1 – 0 games.  SJU begins their Atlantic 10 conference slate on the road.

Next Game – 9/20 at St. Louis

TEMPLE 4 – 5 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 AAC

Results – Lost 1- 0 at NJIT, Won 3 – 0 at Wagner

Summary – The Owls broke a 4-game losing streak with a shutout win over Wagner.  Morgan Morocco started the onslaught with a goal less than six minutes into the game.  Jules Blank and Emma Wilkins had the other goals.  It was the third shutout for goal keeper Morgan Basileo.  Temple had a 9 – 0 edge in shots on goal.  The loss at NJIT was decided by a goal with 1:03 remaining in the game.  The Cherry and White travel to Texas for their American opener.

Next Game – 9/20 at SMU

VILLANOVA 6 – 3 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Big East

Results – Won 1 – 0 at Saint Joseph’s, Won 2 – 1 (OT) vs. Siena at the Higgins Soccer Complex

Summary – It was a big week for the Wildcats leading scorers Bri Austin and Chloe O’Neill.  They lead the team in scoring with 9 points apiece.  O’Neill had the game winning goal at Saint Joseph’s with O’Neill getting the assist.  Austin got both goals against Siena including the game winner in the first overtime period.

Next Game – 9/22 vs. Providence at the Higgins Soccer Complex
