Penn Posts Two More Shutouts, La Salle Scores Seven Goals While Saint Joe’s Posts Six, Villanova Plays to Overtime Against Nationally-Ranked Georgetown, Drexel Gets Into Conference Playoff Picture

Week of October 2 – 8, 2018

DREXEL 5 – 5 – 4 Overall, 2 – 3 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost 1 – 0 vs. UNCW, Won 2 – 0 vs. Delaware both at Vidas Field

Summary – Drexel played another close game, as they have all season, losing to UNCW and beating Delaware.  With the win against the Blue Hens, the Dragons put themselves in a playoff position for the CAA.  Shaelyn McCarty provided offense by sending 3 shots on goal against UNCW, then added the insurance goal in the Delaware game.  Lauren Curry scored the other goal.  Libby Baeza posted her fifth shutout on Sunday.

Next Game – 10/11 vs. Hofstra at Vidas Field

LA SALLE 8 – 4 – 1 Overall, 3 – 3 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 3 – 0 vs. St. Bonaventure, Won 4 – 1 vs. Rhode Island both at McCarthy Stadium

Summary – The Explorers are starting to show offense putting seven across the line this week.  In addition to the offense, they allowed one goal.  Molly O’Brien is posting numbers.  O’Brien had a career-high 5 points in the game against the Bonnies, and she had a goal against the Rams.  Madison Bower found the back of the net.  Jess Shanhan posted a goal and 2 assists.  Claudia Jenkins recorded her fifth clean slate during the home stand.  La Salle faces a huge test in their next game meeting Dayton on the road.

PENN – 9 – 1 – 1 Overall, 2 – 0 – 1 Ivy League

ResultsWon 1 – 0 vs. Columbia at Rhodes Field, Won 1 – 0 (2 OT) at Lehigh

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania posted two 1 – 0 victories. Emily Sands scored both golden goals and now has 6 game-deciding scores this season.  The Red and Blue have not given up a goal in nearly 600 minutes shutting out the opponent in the last six games.  The Quakers are unbeaten over the last 8 games.  Their record is the best posted over 11 games in program history.

Next Game – 10/13 at Dartmouth

SAINT JOSEPH’S  9 – 4 – 2 Overall, 4 – 2 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 4 – 1 at George Mason, Won 2 – 0 vs. VCU at Sweeney Field

Summary – The Hawks swept both games this week, and now have won four of their last five games.  Saint Joe’s posted 4 answered goals in the second half in the win at George Mason.  In the VCU game goals by Dakota Mills and Michaela Finneyfrock provided the winning margin.  Mills had two goals in the win against the Patriots.  Morgan Bower and Aleksa Peev also found the back of the net.  Goal keeper Grace Bendon posted her fourth shutout against the Rams, and saved 7 at GMU.

Summary –

Next Game – 10/11 at Cincinnati

VILLANOVA 9 – 5 – 0 Overall, 3 – 2 – 0 Big East

Results – Won 4 – 1 vs. Seton Hall, Lost 1 – 0 (OT) at # 5 Georgetown

Summary – The Wildcats posted a conference win defeating the Pirates.  Nova put in four straight goals to get the win.  Bri Austin scored twice along with Chloe O’Neill and Natalie Fouque.  The it was on the road playing the nationally-ranked Hoyas to overtime.  Villanova fell on a goal 8:14 into overtime by Caitlin Farrell.  O’Neill had 2 shots, both on goal.  Goal Keeper Hensley Hancuff had a strong week saving 5 SHU shots, and 8 by GU.
