La Salle Advances in Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer

#4 La Salle Defeats #5 Dayton; #7 Saint Joseph’s Falls to #2 George Washington


The La Salle Explorers advanced to the semifinal round of the Atlantic 10 women’s soccer tournament defeating the fifth-seeded Dayton Flyers 1 – 0 at McCarthy Stadium. In Washington the season ended for the Saint Joseph’s Hawks losing 3 – 0 to the second seeded Colonials of George Washington.

In the 21st minute Emily Banashefski scored the only goal of the game, and the Explorers made it stand behind 7 saves by Claudia Jenkins. La Salle (11-7 – 1, 6 – 4 – 0) moves on to face the top-seeded Bilikens of Saint Louis on Friday in St. Louis.

Meanwhile in the nations capital the Hawks were blanked 3 – 0 by the Colonials. Cameron Perrott made 4 saves in the game facing 7 shots on goal. Saint Joe’s had 4 shots on net. The first goal of the game came in the first five minutes forcing SJU to play from behind. Morgan Bower and Kylie D’Ambra had 3 shots for the Hawks who finished the year 7 – 10 – 2, 4 – 5 – 1 in the A10.
