La Salle Conference Win Streak Reaches 6 Games, Drexel Takes Sole Possession Of Second Place in CAA

DREXEL 6 – 4 – 1 Overall, 1 – 0 – 1 CAA
Results – Won 2 – 0 at Delaware, Won 1 – 0 at UNCW
Summary – The Dragons posted their first ever win at Delaware, and with the win at UNCW have taken sole possession of second place in the CAA. Recording back to back shutouts, goal keeper Christiana Ogunsami has 7 clean slates this season.
Next Game – 10/15 vs. College of Charleston at Vidas Field
LA SALLE 11 – 3 – 1 Overall, 6 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10
Results – Won 6 – 0 vs. Davidson at McCarthy Stadium, Won 6 – 2 at Massachusetts
Summary – It was an offensive explosion for the Explorers scoring 12 goals in the two games this week. Their winning streak has reached 6 games. La Salle sits atop of the Atlantic 10 standings. In the Davidson game LSU had 9 assists which tied the program record for most assists in one game. The last time the Explorers accomplished this feat was on September 8, 2000 against St. Peter’s. Madison Bower found the back of the net 4 times over the week. She is now the team leader in goals with 8 and in points marking 23.

Results – Lost 1 – 0 (2 OT) at Columbia
Summary – Emma Anderson scored for the Columbia Lions in the 105th minute to give the University of Pennsylvania their first loss in the Ivy League. Penn goal keeper Kitty Qu made a season-high 11 saves. For the campaign Qu has an 87.5% save percentage.
Next Game – 10/14 vs. Dartmouth at Rhodes Field
SAINT JOSEPH’S 7 – 5 – 2 Overall, 2 – 3 – 1 Atlantic 10
Result – Lost 1 – 0 at VCU, Won 4 – 2 vs. Dayton at Sweeney Field
Summary – The Hawks split their Atlantic 10 games over the week. Grace Bendon made 6 saves against VCU, but a goal by Alyssa Talent in the 73rd minute sent the Hawks to defeat. However, Saint Joe’s bounced back with a home win against Dayton. Gabrielle Vagnozzi and Michaela Finneyfrok combined to score three goals in the victory. The Hawks are one-point shy of getting a conference playoff seed. SJU has 7 points while two teams are ahead with 8 points. The top eight teams get a playoff bid.

TEMPLE 5 – 6 – 2 Overall, 1 – 2 – 1 American
Results – Lost 4 – 0 at Memphis, Tied 2 – 2 (2 OT) at Tulsa
Summary – The Owls lost their first conference road game this season at Memphis. The Tigers outshot the Owls 20 – 6, 9 – 2 on goal. Temple finished the road trip with a draw. Gabriella McKeown scored at the 82:47 mark to tie the Tulsa game, her fourth of the season. McKeown leads the team in goals scores and is tied for the top spot in points with 8.

VILLANOVA 6 – 8 – 0 Overall, 2 – 3 – 0 Big East
Results – Won 1 – 0 at Seton Hall, Lost 5 – 0 vs. #12 Georgetown at the Higgins Soccer Complex
Summary – By defeating Seton Hall the Wildcats registered a two-game Big East winning streak. Amanda Vocelka scored on a header in the 13th minute. The streak ended with a loss to nationally-ranked Georgetown in a game where the Hoyas outshot the Wildcats 15 – 4, 5 – 0 on goal. Amanda Corolan had all 4 Georgetown goals. The other was a Villanova own-goal.
